AI agent approval workflows
Autonomy is a range, not a switch. Approval workflows let agents act inside safe limits and hand the rest to a person.
How can businesses approve high-risk AI agent actions?
Set thresholds per action type. When a proposed action crosses a threshold, Gatewise returns REQUIRE APPROVAL and holds the action until a named approver decides. The decision, the approver and the evidence are recorded with the action.
Threshold design
- Autonomous band: low value, reversible, high confidence actions
- Manager band: moderate value or moderate impact actions
- Executive or finance band: high value and hard to reverse actions
- Hard block band: actions that stay with humans entirely
What the approver sees
An approval request is only useful with context. The approver sees the proposed action, the agent that requested it, the policy that triggered the escalation and the evidence that was checked.
That turns an approval into a 10 second decision instead of an investigation.
After the decision
On approval the action becomes executable once. On rejection the agent receives a decision it cannot argue with, and the reason is stored with the action record.
